So much happening during January ...
This is a round-up of work that has been completed.

****The long awaited day has arrived for three children we rescued from a remote area in the bush to go into hospital. These children have severe distorted legs from drinking the local water which is so high if fluoride. The operations took place on Tuesday. We thank the volunteer who paid for the childrens operations and I will keep you posted on their recovery.

**** So much need, so much is required for us to do. This photo was taken of some of the counsellors from Checkorani, saying 'goodbye' to some of there elderly residents, who was living in the bush under a shack, when the roof fell in on them. They are now fully recovered and enjoying life at Mailisita.

**** In February last year, the floods washed away the mud house of this elderly grandmother who was caring for two small grandchildren.
She was living in the remains of two walls with a plastic covering where I found her living.
We thank the volunteers who have kindly built her this new home and provided a bed for her and the children to sleep on.

**** A new baby arrives, his mother has died in childbirth. We have had many admissions of children over this last two weeks, and yesterday, whilst in Mirerani, I made the decision that we shall have to have a further home there to accomodate all the future children.

****Another project completed. This maasai mama was dancing in jubilation of having a new home that our volunteers had paid for.
She was so determined that no one was going to take her home from her, that Pastor Frank informs me that she moved on to the site when the foundation was dug, hanging all of her possessions in a tree, and the builders built around her. Many thanks to the volunteer who contributed her funding. The children now have a roof over there heads... Bless you.

***** AND SO TO MY VERY LAST PIECE OF NEWS........ THE FIRST OF OUR CHILDREN AND STAFF MOVE INTO THERE NEW HOME AT TUDOR VILLAGE SITE ON SUNDAY!!!!! WOWEEE, WHAT AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT..... FOLLOWED TWO WEEKS LATER BY A FURTHER 10 CHILDREN MOVING INTO HOUSE NO 2..... WHAT AN ENTERPRISE!

WHAT ENDEAVOR! ALL THAT LOVELY HARD WORK FROM ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS HAS NOW COME TO FRUITION. THE CHILDREN ARE MOVING INTO THERE NEW HOMES. PRAISE GOD - HALLELUJAH...
WHAT CAN I SAY BUT BLESS YOU ALL. FOR THE FUND RAISING, FOR THE DONATIONS, FOR THE PHYSICAL HARD WORK. FOR ALL THE TREE PLANTING!!!!
THE SITE LOOKS WONDERFUL

Happy Days
And first ...

there was our wonderful Christmas Day , where all the children received a shoe box of 'goodies'.

And then the annual "Water Fight" took place at Pilgrim House.

No matter how many times I say to the children, "Don't let us have a water fight this year!", I am shouted down in protest by the children. How could I possibly think of stopping the "water fight day".

I really think it's more about them having the opportunity of wetting all the staff, then anything else... so here's some shots of their excitement. It was particularly special for Rogarti, (in the wheelchair) as he was badly stung with bee's and was in intensive care for 5 days.

We thank God for his amazing recovery.

Christmas Edition 2008
FROM ACROSS THE MILES WE WISH YOU ALL A 'SAVIOUR FILLED' CHRISTMAS, AND AN EXCEEDINGLY PROSPERIOUS NEW YEAR WITH ALL THE WONDEROUS GIFT'S GOD WILL BLESS YOU WITH.

It has been well over 4 weeks since my last write up on the blogg, and so much has happened it is hard to know just where to begin......

So I will start with our amazing Christmas Party in Mirerani on the 20th Dec. where we fed 585 children and adults, and Paul our webmaster will follow up with a link with the photo's and text of my trip to the UK. (select UK2008 from the Stories page on the website)

We knew it was going to be a long tiring day as we transported extra staff into the mining area of Mirerani, to prepare the 60 kilo of meat, rice, and all the vegetables and fruit for the Food Kitchens Christmas Party.

Kirsty Stuart, a volunteer with us, I think, was a little taken aback at the basic nature of how food is prepared in the open, with a group of ladies sat on drums nattering to each other under the shade of a tree. The men given the job of cutting all the meat into cubes.

The start of the dinner was organised for 2pm for the adult HIV/AIDS group to eat first..... the blind guests arrived first at 9am not wanting to miss out on anything, and then we heard the street
children gathering outside.

Some children waited 6 hours for the christmas meal and a gift. I managed to take photo's of the first group of people coming in for there meal, but as it was 'all hands on deck' thereafter, I completely forgot to take any photo's of the children.

We also invited local leaders to attend the lunch, and I mentioned that this was our third year working with the people of Manyara Region.
As the children lined up we made a note of the street children who attended in rags and had no shoes. After xmas Grace our Social Worker will go and assess their situation, to see what help we can give them and to get them back into education.

After all the staff had left, I still had a further 50 clients to attend to who required money for transport so they could obtain there anti-retro drugs from Arusha town. With being away for 4 weeks they had not received any funding. So with Ramesha our oldest boy home from school ( how did he grow so tall and become such a handsome young man) as my interpretor, we gradually worked through the long line of men and women, and at 7pm we closed the door, thankful that everything had gone wonderfuly well and the children were extatic at receiving a gift of clothes or school materials or for the young child a soft toy.

An overnight stay at Fleeze House brought early morning visitors to the centre, and during the morning I accomodated two children. The first an 8 year old Albino child whose father and mother brought her to me for protection from the witch doctor's and the second an 18 month old boy whose mother was to sick with Aids to care for him any longer, and so everyday the work of Light in Africa is growing, including our faith that God will provide for all of His children and meet all of our needs.

I thank and bless you all for your commitment to Light in Africa during this year. Without your help we would have great difficulty in helping over 12,000 children and adults alone this year with medical and social assistance.

HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME AND REMEMBER GOD IS ABOVE ANY MAN-MADE RECESSION, HE IS THE AWESOME GOD THAT WE SERVE AT LIGHT IN AFRICA.

Updates and some adorable new faces
Hi everyone, let me be the first to wish you all a joyous Christmas.

I am over here in the UK for the following 4 weeks, and Laura has been very busy making arrangements for me to speak about the work of Light in Africa, up and down the country. At present, it's swirling snow!!! and I really don't do cold or snow anymore having lived in around 28 degrees for the last 8 years, so I'm shrivelling up like a wizoned old prune.

I might not have time to respond to all my correspondence with being on the move so much, but please have patience with me and I will respond eventually.

As I was preparing to leave for the Kilimanjaro airport, Dr. Minja rang me to say, would we accomodate a 5 month old little Albino child, as the father had bad intentions for the child's life. When the mother found out she had ran for safety to Dr. Minja's surgery.
Sister Grace was going to collect the child on Monday, and bring the child into care. The above photo shows our new little ones who are based at Fleeze House. The majority of these babies have been abandoned.

Have a blessed week.

#### REQUESTING HELP ####
REQUESTING HELP FROM RETIRED OR ANY TEACHERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO ASSIST IN OUR CHILDREN'S SCHOOL

This is a request from the Manager of the private school that many of our boarders and children attend.

The school would like to change from a Tanzanian curriculum to have International status. To make this change they would like overseas teachers to come over and assist them with the new English curriculum.

All basic needs will be met as well as accommodation. ( I can guarantee you will not go hungry; all of our boarders have gained weight and it is the only school I know which regularly has meat on it's menu !)

Anyone requiring further information, please contact me and I will pass the relevant details on.

Many thanks, mama lynn
